523 Morse, Reed City

The "old" Fire Station located at 111 S. Higbee was built in 1946. The four stall station was a joint effort by the City and Richmond Township. In 1964 the members of the department built a meeting room on top of the station. Over the 57-year-life of the old station fire apparatus has become wider, longer and higher while training requirement for firefighters increased significantly. The old station was no longer adequate.
On May 14, 2002 the Citizen's approved a bond issue to construct the New Fire Station. Bonds in the amount of $575,000 were sold to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Downtown Development Authority donated $80,000. fundraising by the Fire Department and its Auxiliary, and citizen donations made up the rest of the $740,000 project. Ground was broken on November 6, 2002.
The 10,000 square foot Station provides four times the area of the old station. The station contains adequate room for all fire apparatus, a separate training and conference room, office space, a meeting/day room, storage space, and a two-story hands-on training structure.
